Nina ‘Ann’ Straight, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 21, 2017. She and her late loving husband ‘Ted’ (Theodore Straight) moved to Chatham 54 years ago. They were married in May of 1954. Ann was an honor student at Milburn High School and attended the Washington School for Secretaries. Later she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, then a Masters in Philosophy and finally a PhD in English Literature, all from Drew University. She moved to Colorado in June of 2017 to be closer to her daughter Susan, and Susan’s family.

Ann enjoyed working as a stringer and feature story writer at the Bernardsville News & the Chatham Press. She was a Girl Scout Leader and also a Sunday School Teacher when her children were young. At the age of 17, she earned special notoriety for jumping into a local lake to rescue a 4 year old child.

Ann was a loving mother and grandmother with three children (Charles who passed away September 2004, Cheryl and Susan) and four grandchildren (Avery, Nolan, Evan and Morris). Ann is also survived by her sister (Alice), her nephew & his son (Mark & Campbell) and her husband’s family (brother-in-law & wife – Ronald and Marylyn; their 4 children – Sharon, Carolyn, Roger and Richard; and several grand-children). The Viewing will be held at Wm A. Bradley & Son funeral Home, 345 Main St, Chatham on Friday, October 6, from 2-4 pm, followed by a Service at 4 pm.
