Michael Vincent Ryan of Union City passed away suddenly on December 23, 2019. Born March 11, 1964. He is survived by his father Juan J. Ryan of New Providence, his siblings, Mary Lou Ryan of New York City, Terre Ryan of Baltimore, MD, Fran Ryan of Summit, NJ, Juan Ryan of Boston, MA, and Patricia Ryan of Summit, NJ, as well as his nieces Elizabeth Ryan and Christina Wilson and his nephews Jack Wilson and James Reynolds. He was predeceased by his mother, Philomena Ryan. He was employed by the law firm of Cleary Gottlieb in New York City for the past several years.
Mike was known as a “gentle giant” by all who loved him. He was an avid volunteer who gave up Thanksgiving celebrations with his family in order to serve the homeless. Mike was a loyal friend, brother, uncle, son and colleague. All who knew him were touched by his kind and generous demeanor.
Mike embraced life with his love of travelling, reading, hiking, biking and cooking. Mike was always there for his friends and family, showing up whenever and wherever he was needed. He never gave a gift without putting a tremendous amount of thought into it.
He will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 10:45 am from St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave. Summit, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s name may be made to: Community Food Bank of New Jersey, 31 Evans Terminal, Hillside, NJ 07205
