~~Michael Scannelli, 73, of Union, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Orange, Michael lived in East Orange, where he graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School. He has lived in Union for the last 45 years. Michael worked for A&P in Edison, for over 30 years. After his retirement, he worked as a crossing guard in Union, and volunteered as an usher at St. Michael’s Church. He also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, and adored his grandsons. A humble, kind and generous man, Michael could always be found with a smile on his face.
Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mildred, and brother, Jack; Michael was survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat (nee: Caggiano); daughter Patty Ann Lewis and her husband Jack; son Michael Scannelli and his wife Hillarie; grandchildren Jackie, Nicky, Anthony and Joey; sister Arlene; brothers in law Michael Caggiano and his wife Sharon, and Joe Caggiano and his wife Virginia; and sisters in law Maryann Gallo and her husband James, and Georgianna Scannelli.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:15am at St Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery, Union. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 4-8pm at the Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave., Union. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
