Michael C. Bufo, Jr., 95, died on Friday March 8th, 2013 at Roper Hospital, Charleston, SC. Mr. Bufo lived in Mt. Pleasant, SC with his wife of 66 years, Rose Marie (nee Solazzi) Bufo for the past two years. He was born in Millburn, NJ, graduated from Millburn High School and lived there until he and Rose moved to Springfield, NJ in 1951.


Michael was drafted into the US Army in Feb. of 1941 and served in the South Pacific. He was in Kauai for two years, in combat in the Mariana Islands, and then he was sent to Oahu. Additionally, he saw action in Saipan and New Hebrides. He was furloughed in March 1945 and the war ended in Germany while he was home. He was discharged on May 13, 1945.

Mr. Bufo was a dedicated carpenter and recently received his 65 year pin from the New Jersey United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He served as Vice President of Local 620, Madison, NJ. He was an avid golfer, umpired baseball in his youth, a weekly bowler and loved to watch any sport that involved throwing, kicking or hitting a ball. He was a member of Casa Colombo, Millburn, NJ, United Ostomy Association, and served as an usher for 50 years at St. James Church, Springfield.


Michael never met a person he thought of as a stranger and could talk easily to all people. He was a devoted husband and father and showed his love for his family through his willingness to work and give selflessly to his family. Besides his wife Rose, Mr. Bufo is survived by two daughters Patricia Bufo Murray of Turnersville, NJ and Rene Bufo Miles and her husband James E. Miles, DMD of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He is grandfather to Bria Grace Murray of Turnersville, NJ and Michael Jonathan Miles of Huntsville, AL, and great grandfather to Ryatt Elijah Murray of Turnersville, NJ.
