Mary B. “Maureen” (Haran) Hegen, age 90, of Springfield, NJ, died peacefully at home surrounded by her daughters on July 1, 2020. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Maureen lived in Springfield, Ortley Beach, and Holiday City West in Toms River, NJ. Maureen worked for the telephone company, the Salvation Army, and Lord & Taylor before retiring. She was a member of the HCW Women’s Club and the Bocce Club.
Maureen was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas “Gene” Hegen and her brothers Kevin and John “Jackie” Haran. She was a wonderful mother to her daughters, Patricia Burkhardt (Kevin) of Westfield and Laura Hegen (Chris McDonough) of Springfield, cherished grandmother to Brian Burkhardt (Angelique Conto) and Mark Burkhardt (fiancé Alyssa Faede), loving sister to Edward Haran, and special aunt to all her nieces and nephew, Patrick.
A funeral service will be held at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. in Springfield on Tuesday, July 7 at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10:30am to 12:30pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels at Sage Eldercare, 290 Broad St. Summit, NJ 07901, in memory of Mary Hegen.
