Marcela P. Videña

Loving Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother

Marcela P. Videña, 88, of Springfield, New Jersey passed away peacefully at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.

Marcela was born on November 30, 1926 in Silang Cavite, Philippines. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerardo and Leonarda (nee Layos) Patinga.

She was the loving mother to nine children; Nieves Salle, Honorio Videña, Leonardo Videña, Francisco Videña, Cleofe Bautista, Celestino Videña, Teresita Muniz, Bienvenido Videña, and Celso Videña. She was the cherished grandmother to twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jose Javier Videña who died when the youngest of their 9 children was only 3 years old. She tended to the farm, the main source of livelihood and did all odd jobs just to make ends meet. She was a tough woman and never complained of how life was difficult for her then. She was beautiful, inside and out, a very caring and loving person who welcomed everybody to her already houseful of 9 children, and did not say no to anybody who asks her a favor.

She moved to the US in 1981, staying with children, wherever there were grandkids to babysit or look after or simply to enjoy them: San Diego (for Jason & Crissy), New York (for Joyce and Marie), Georgia (for Samantha & Charles), Virginia (for JC, Josh and Carmina), Springfield (for Jessica, Vernon & Danny). She finally settled in Springfield NJ with daughter Tess and was a parishioner of St. James the Apostle R. C. Church, Springfield, NJ. She was a devout Catholic who always trusted the Lord to provide her needs. She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League in the Philippines. Her favorite saints were the Blessed Virgin Mary (whom she fondly called Mama Mary) and St. Anthony of Padua.

A visitation will be on Monday, December 29, 2014 & Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 5:00 9:00 p.m. at the Bradley, Smith and Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081.
