Luther S. Roehm died on February 27, 2013, at Green Hill Retirement Center in West Orange, NJ.


A reception to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Hobart Avenue, Summit, NJ.


Born Luther Schechinger Roehm on February 19,1911, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he attended Indiana University where he received his AB and AM degrees, and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He received his PhD in biochemistry from the University of Iowa.


Mr. Roehm was a Research Chemist and Assistant General Sales Manager for Dow Chemical Company from 1938 – 1951. From 1951 – 1961 he was with A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company in Decatur, Illinois, leaving as Vice President. Mr. Roehm joined Merck & Company, Inc. in 1961, and after 15 years retired as Senior Corporate Vice President.


In 1976 he was appointed Regional Attache in the Department of State, Agency for International development, to promote U.S. technology and technical assistance in Southeast Asia.


During his 46 years in Summit Mr. Roehm was active in supporting the Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Central Presbyterian Church and served on the boards of Overlook Hospital, Family Services, and served several years on the City Council. For nearly 20 years he was a trustee of Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois. Mr. Roehm’s wife of 69 years, Louise M. Roehm, preceded him in death. He is survived by three children. Marilyn Richardson and Carol Evans of Columbus, Indiana, Stephen Roehm of New York City, NY; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.
