Kenneth Havel formerly of Chatham now of Florham Park passed away on April 27, 2018. Friends and relatives may go for remembrance on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the William Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street Chatham from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a private funeral and burial service for family members only.
Born in Kansas to the late Jerry and Ella Havel, he was one of two children. He attended Kansas State University for his Bachelor and Masters degrees. While at college he was a member of the Phi Kappi Phi National Honor Society. He worked for the college for 2 years before accepting a position with the US Department of Agriculture where he worked in several different positions working mostly with fumigants and was a resource for his Agency. When he retired he was Center Director with laboratories in Hoboken, NJ and Miami, Florida.
Ken was a veteran of WWII. After completing basic training in Texas he went to radar school in Wisconsin, electronic school in Illinois and radar school in Florida. He served as a sergeant in the Troop Carrier Command.
He lived in Chatham for 48 years and was a member of the Chatham Shade Tree Commission and a member of the United Methodist Church. He volunteered at the Church as Assistant Financial Secretary for 17 years.
Ken was predeceased by his wife Marge and his brother Earl. He is survived by his children, Linda and her husband Jeff Drowos of Boca Raton, Gary Havel of Succasunna and Debbie and her husband Mike Maroon of Chatham, grandchildren Bryan, Michael and Haley and great grandchildren Lila and Jackson.
Ken will be remembered for his easy outgoing and generous personality, his love of the Garden Avenue gatherings, an avid Kansas State fan and his love of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his distinctive laugh. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Chatham Methodist Church, 460 Main Street, Chatham, NJ 07928.
