Kathleen B. Lakeland
01/06/1941 - 12/17/2018

On December 17, 2018, Kathleen B. Lakeland passed into the loving arms of Jesus, surrounded by her family following a six month illness which she fought with dignity. Kathy was born January 6, 1941 to Kathleen (Brennan) and Edgar Bergen in East Orange, New Jersey, where she attended Our Lady Help of Christians grade school and Our Lady of the Valley High School in Orange. Upon graduation in 1958, Kathy immediately began her long career in the Banking industry though she took a one year break to serve as an American Airlines flight attendant in 1966. On February 4, 1967, Kathy married the love of her life, Robert Lakeland, and happily settled into Maplewood where they would remain for thirty five years, raising their daughter Kara and son Marc. Upon the arrival of their first born, Kathy became an at-home mother, only returning to the banking field when their children reached school age. Kathleen immersed herself into the Maplewood Community as a member of the Maplewood Junior Women’s Club and enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. Kathy and Bob enjoyed traveling and eventually moved to Florham Park sixteen years ago. Kathy joined the Thursday Morning Club in Madison, where she continued to play bridge, learned to play Mah Jong and together, Kathy and Bob learned to play canasta. Kathy was also a member of the Women’s Association of Morristown Medical Center, and together they worked in the Morristown, New Jersey’s Church of the Redeemer Soup Kitchen. Kathy also  delivered meals for Morris County Meals on Wheels. Kathy loved joining exercise classes, walking, and attending Broadway shows, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and being with her brother and sister and their families at the Jersey Shore each summer. Kathy will fondly be remembered for her style and graciousness.

In addition to her heartbroken husband, Robert, she leaves her dear daughter, Kara McCluskey (Scott, predeceased in 2007) and grandchildren Kelsey, Colleen and James McCluskey of Morris Township and her loving son Marc and his wife Meghan and their children Ryan and Owen Lakeland of Wall, to mourn her passing. In addition, Kathy leaves her brother Richard and his wife Maryanne of Holmdel, and her brother in law Robert Sachs of Scottsdale, AZ. Kathy was predeceased by her sister Eileen Sachs, and son in law Scott McCluskey; her half sister Constance Patrick, her half brother Edgar Bergen, and her loving in laws, Marie and Russell Lakeland. Kathy also leaves her three nieces, five nephews, seven cousins and her dear friends of over 60 years, Joan, Pat, Elaine, Sheila and the many friendships she forged throughout her adult life.
