Kathleen “Kay” Mahoney, a longtime resident of Summit, N.J., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave., Summit, N.J., on Monday, January 4, at 10:45 a.m. Kay was born in 1925 and made her family her life’s work. In 1947 she married her high school sweetheart Louis upon his return from WWII. They started a family, that over 73 years, produced five children, Kathy, Mike, Tim, Terry, and Brian; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Bailey, Shane, Michael, Kyle, Mitchell, Corey, JJ, and Vivian; and six great-grandchildren, Shane, Kelly, Patrick, Tessa, Miles, and Charley. Kay could always be found at her kid’s or grandkids’ sporting events. Later in life, she retired from school art projects, picked up a paintbrush and chisel, and became an accomplished painter and sculptor. Always an eye for beauty, Kay loved interior design and helping decorate her children’s houses. Mom is loved by her family and will forever live in their hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 10:45 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave. Summit, NJ. Interment St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit, NJ In lieu of flowers, donations in Kay’s memory may be made to the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad at www.summitems.org
