Kanchana Svetvilas
12/08/1939 - 06/14/2019

Kanchana Svetvilas, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died on June 14, 2019. She was 79.

She was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Dr. Chavalit Svetvilas, daughters, Kanchalee (Jesse) Reeves, Chuleenan Svetvilas (Kofi Natambu), Chanika Svetvilas and Narisa (Loren) Svetvilas, grandchildren, Olivia and Graeme Reeves and Emma and Raimee Svetvilas.

She graduated from Bournemouth University in England and worked at Bank of America in Bangkok. After meeting Chavalit at a dance in Bangkok, she immigrated to Washington, DC and married Chavalit in 1965. They settled in upstate New York. She lived a full life as a devoted wife and mother to her four daughters. She sewed all her children’s clothes when they were young and taught them to sew as well.  She also dedicated her time as a part-time bookkeeper to support her husband. She always had a flair for fashion, often seen wearing a scarf and matching purse and shoes. Travel was another passion for Kanchana. Whether it was a short day trip or a locale out of the country she enjoyed seeing new places and meeting other people. She treasured her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. An active and talented crafter, Kanchana created beautiful quilts and pillows. She also knitted, crocheted, painted and beaded necklaces and bracelets.

A private memorial service will be held in celebrating her life. The Svetvilas family thanks Garden Terrace Nursing Home for the love and care they gave Kanchana during the past two years.
