Mr. Joseph Thenas Pierre passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on July 21, 2020 after a short battle with colon cancer and a mild Parkinson disease.

Mr. Joseph T. Pierre was born in Negriel, Haiti on September 10, 1948 to Mr. Pierretilus Pierre and Mercilia Reneus.  Mr. Joseph grew up in Pisto and attended Ecole Rurale de Boudet and graduated from that school in 1966.  Right after that he embarked in a trade and became a Tailor.

At the age of 21, he married the love of his life, Lucienne Val they had five children together. Weslande, Fadette, Hermione, Mezaak and Sherwood.  In 1975, Mr. Joseph had decided to travel to the United States in search of a better life. Shortly after his arrival in New Jersey, he had worked very hard to save enough money and sent for his wife and his children to join him in New Jersey.

After working for a company called Consumer for some years, he had decided to go in business for himself, he had purchased a taxicab medallion and started driving a cab at the Newark Airport until he had fallen sick to that terrible colon cancer and followed later by a mild Parkinson disease that eventually took his life.

Mr. Joseph was a devoted Christian, he was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and a choir member.  He loved his Church. He would be the first one there and the last one to leave.

Mr. Joseph T. Pierre was also the President of AKEDP a non-profit organization whose primary mission was and continue to be to help disadvantaged children of Pisto and those of the neighboring villages.

Mr. Joseph went to his hometown Pisto in 1998, he was dumbfounded to see the number of school age children roaming the streets during school hours.  When he made some inquiries about these children only to find out they were on the streets simply because their parents were poor and couldn’t afford to send them to school, Mr. Joseph realized something had to be done immediately to alleviate these kids’ situations.

When he returned to New Jersey, he organized a meeting with friends and family to come up with a solution to help these children.  Upon conclusion of the meeting, AKEDP was founded.  To date a beautiful school has been built and hundreds of children are now in school because of the great work this organization founded by Mr. Joseph T. Pierre had been doing.

The funeral service will be held at the Haitian Baptist Church of Jesus Christ located at 1127 Rivington St, Roselle New Jersey on Saturday August 1, 2020 starting at 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM for viewing and then 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM for the actual service, at the conclusion of the service, he will be transported to his resting place at the Rosedale and Rosehill Cemetery in Linden New Jersey.
