Joseph T. Newsome, Jr., 71, of Maplewood, New Jersey passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014.
Joseph was born on June 9, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Sally (nee Davis) Newsome.
Joseph was a 1962 graduate of Irvington High School. He was a firefighter for the Maplewood Fire Department, FMBA Local 25 for 31 years and retired as Captain/Chief Fire Inspector. He was a member of the Springfield/Hillside Elks. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Maplewood, NJ. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with family and he was an avid Yankee fan.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Debra Shaw and husband William, five adoring grandchildren; Jennifer, Kimberly, Mallory, William, and Keri Shaw and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth, 1100 Pine Ave., Union, NJ 07083. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 767 Prospect Street, Maplewood, NJ 07040. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ. In Joseph’s Memory, donations can be directed to St. Barnabas Hospice & Palliative Care Ct, 95 Old Short Hills Road, 1st Floor, West Orange, N. J. 07052.
