~~Joseph A. Vecchio, 86, of Long Island, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph attended Pace University, Brooklyn Law School and NYU Law School, obtaining an LL.M degree. He was a tax attorney, who worked for Neider & Wohl in New York City until his retirement.
After Law School, Joseph entered the US Army during the Korean War. He taught illiterate soldiers how to read and write.
Joseph was a member of the Nassau Country Club, and enjoyed golfing and reading. What he loved most in life was his family. He will be missed by his wife of 63 years, Sondra (Santillo); children Gerard Vecchio and his wife Jenny Merrick Vecchio, and Gerardina Callahan and her husband Vincent; and grandchildren Sabine Vecchio, Lexy Vecchio, Paige Callahan and Morgan Callahan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 10am at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd. in Chatham Twp. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Chatham. There will be a visitation on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Wm A Bradley Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham.
