Long-time Chatham Township resident

John J. McGrath, 95, of Chatham Township passed peacefully at home on October 16, 2013. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. John has lived in Chatham Township since 1950. He was a 1942 graduate and President of his class at Newark Technical School (now NJIT). John served proudly in the Army during WWII as a 2nd Lieutenant in the South Pacific including the occupation of Japan. He was an engineer with Wagner Corporation in Parsippany from 1949 until his retirement in 1983. John was a parishioner and founding member of Corpus Christi Church. He was a craftsman, baker, gardener, bee keeper, an avid reader and a lover of American & Irish history.

John is predeceased by his wife of sixty-six years Veronica “Ronnie” McGrath. He is survived by his children, Joanne and her husband Jim Aucone of White Plains, NY, James and his wife Martha of Westwood, NJ, Timothy of Chatham, NJ, Gerald and his wife Vickie of Katonah, NY and Eileen McGrath and her husband John Finklea of Tampa, Fla., fourteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his brother James A. McGrath of Highlands, NJ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 21 at 9:30 am from Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd., Chatham Township. Interment Fair Mount Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 2 to 6 pm., at the Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name may be made to Corpus Christi Church or Chatham Emergency Squad, 45 Spring St., Chatham, NJ 07928.
