John B. Sorrentino, Sr., 85, of Brick (formerly of Union) passed away on December 5, 2020.  Visiting hours at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave. in Union will be on Friday, December 11th from 10am to 12pm.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover at 1:30pm.  All guests are asked to abide by the current Covid 19 restrictions by wearing masks and maintaining social distance. Born in Orange, the son of Vincenzo “James” and Marion (Villa) Sorrentino, John was raised in Union where he graduated High School in 1953. An outstanding baseball player, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals right out of high school and went on to play in Colorado, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.  John proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.  He returned and rejoined the Cardinals and after sustaining a career ending injury went to join the Township of Union Fire Department, retiring in 1986 after 25 years of service.  A member of the Union Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge # 1583 since 1962, John was also an avid Yankees fan and a #1 fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

John was the beloved husband of 47 years to the late Geraldine.  He was the loving father of Michele Barattucci and her husband Tony, Kenneth Haines and his wife the late Karen, Jeffrey Haines, John Sorrentino, Jr. and his wife Eileen and James Sorrentino and his wife Jessica.  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Anthony, Dina and Lisa Barattucci, Dana Haines, Ashley Haines, Stephanie Capalupo, Nicholas and Jenna Sorrentino, and Jimmy and Joseph Sorrentino.
