Mulholland of Chatham, N.J. passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Morristown Medical Center.  Joan is predeceased by her husband Richard Mulholland who passed in January of 2019.  Joan leaves behind her brother John Hurley of Chatham, her nephew Michael Silance and his wife Letecia of Las Vegas, NV, her nephew Dennis Silance and his wife Diane of Saylorsburg, Pa, her niece JoAnn Ramskow and her husband Carl of Felton, De., her niece Rose Lewczak and her husband Eric of South Plainfield, NJ, her nephew Thomas Silance and his wife Gina of Canadensis, Pa, her niece Margaret Lyons and her husband William, of Bridgewater, NJ, her Stepdaughter Lori Barr and her husband Dave, of Albuquerque, NM, her three step grandchildren, Alex Barr, Christopher Barr, and Erin de-Blaeij and her husband Ardjan along with the many many grand nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

 

Joan was born in Elizabeth, NJ and grew up in Roselle Park graduating High School there in 1951.  She then attended St. Peter’s Nursing School in New Brunswick, NJ graduating in 1954.  She worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for a number of years before continuing her surgical nursing career at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ becoming Head Nurse in the Ambulatory Care Unit until her retirement in January 1989.

 

Joan was an active member in her parish at St. Patrick in Chatham where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered her time and services at Greystone and the Dominican Monastery of our Lady of the Rosary and Cloister Shoppe in Summit as well as devoting her generosity and time to many other charitable works.

 

Known to her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Softie” she was the kindest, most caring, generous, and loving person you’d ever want to meet. She dedicated her life to placing the care of her family and others around her before herself. She was adored and loved by all who came in contact with her. She was ready to help whomever and whenever asked. She was truly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. God and prayer were foremost in her life and it was the wind beneath her wings. Your family will miss you deeply Aunt Softie!

 

The Families of Joan and Red Mulholland wish to thank the many neighbors and friends who watched over them through the years and were ready to help them when needed.

 

A private family service and interment will be held at St. Gertrude’s cemetery in Colonia. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Chatham, New Jersey to be announced at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St. Patrick Parish in Chatham, The Dominican Nuns Our Lady of the Rosary in Summit or Meals on Wheels.
