Helen (Pavlovish) Twomey

Our beloved mother and Nana, Helen (Pavlovich) Twomey, died peacefully on January 22, 2016, at the age of 86. Helen was born and raised in Teaneck. She graduated from Connecticut College in 1951 with a BA degree in history, and received an MS degree in Occupational Therapy from Columbia University in 1953.

Helen married Neil Twomey, her college sweetheart who was attending the US Coastguard Academy, in 1953. They welcomes their oldest daughter Christine into the family in 1954, and subsequently had three more children. After living in several different cities, the family settled in Wyckoff, NJ, where Helen lived for many years of her life.

Helen was intelligent, stimulating, and talented in many ways, delighting friends and family with delicious gourmet meals and her wonderful singing voice. She had an enthusiastic spirit and lively upbeat personality. She was devoted to her husband and family, and passionate about helping others. She has a long career as an occupational therapist, was an active and dedicated member of her church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered at numerous organizations, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Morristown Women’s Club and Friends of the Library.

Helen is survived by her children, Deirdre, Barry and Matthew, and their spouses, David, Melinda & Jill, and her 11 grandchildren, Peter, Julia, Sean, Karsten, Galen, Paul, Margot, Laura, Mark, Scott, & Megan. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Neil and her daughter Christine. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10:45 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave, Summit. Visiting hours will be Saturday, January 30, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Bradley Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 309 Springfield Ave., Summit, NJ.
