Helen M. Bergen (nee Jones), 101, of Chatham, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert A. Bergen (1979), her sisters Margaret Lengyel (2003) and Elizabeth Lee (2017), and her brothers William L. (2008) and Raymond (2012). She is survived by her daughters – Patricia of Chatham and Mary Jane Osberg (Craig) of Morris Plains, her granddaughters Kelly (Joseph) Mirmina of Manchester, CT and Laura Osberg (Brian Behr) of Randolph and her great-grandchildren Hailey Rose Mirmina and Aiden Joseph Mirmina of Manchester, CT. She is also survived by her brother Donald Jones (Lorraine) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
Helen worked for the State of New Jersey in the Employment Services Department, retiring from there to raise her children. She then returned to work at Selective Service in Morristown and then with the Social Security office in Morristown. She retired in 1982. After her retirement, she was active at Corpus Christi Parish in the parish library, with the Altar Society and the Women’s Guild. At the pastor’s request, she started work on a group that provides baptismal bibs. She was also involved in the Senior Citizens group in Chatham Township and the Corpus Christi Seniors (First Friday).
She was always involved in the lives of her granddaughters, including dance recitals and band concerts.
Funeral arrangements are by Bradley Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham, NJ. Viewing will be from 4PM to 8PM on Friday, March 2nd with a funeral mass at Corpus Christi Church on Saturday, March 3rd at 10am followed by entombment at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Corpus Christi Parish, 234 Southern Boulevard, Chatham, NJ (www.corpuschristi.org) or the Senior Center of Chatham (www.chathamseniorcenter.org).
