Harold P. White

Harold P. White of Chatham and Surf City died at home on February 19, 2013. He was 103. Mr. White was born in Plainsboro and lived in East Hanover for 43 years before moving to Chatham 20 years ago. More recently he resided in Surf City.


Mr. White was a graduate of Mercersberg Academy Prep School and Rutgers University (Class of “33”). At Rutgers, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and The Glee Club. He played on the baseball team and the first Light Weight Football team. An avid sports fan, he was voted Hanover Park Hornet Fan of the Year in 1971. With a degree in agriculture, he began his career employed by Walker Gordon Dairy in Plainsboro. He was also employed at Sheffield Farms, Puritan Dairy, Johanna Farms and Tuscan Dairy working in Sales and Public relations. He retired in 1995 at the age of 85.


Mr. White was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hanover for 60 years. Blessed with a beautiful tenor voice, he sang professionally in churches in New York and New Jersey but closer to his heart, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church choir.


Mr. White is predeceased by his beloved wife of 71 years, Bessie. He was the devoted father of Judy Laaksonen of PA, and Wendy O’Connor Quinn and her husband Edwin of Surf City. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Corless of PA, sister-in-law, Jeanne Estabrooke of FL as well as 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
