Gertrude Hathaway Zander, 98, of Green Village, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at her home. She was the daughter of George and Grace Rickley Hathaway, spending her childhood in the Hickory Tree area of Chatham Twp. After graduating from Chatham High School in 1936, she worked at The Prudential in Newark. Gertrude and her husband, A. Christopher Zander built a home in Green Village in 1951, which remained their home throughout their lives.
Gert was a member of the Green Village Volunteer Fire Dept., Ladies Auxiliary and the Harding Twp. Senior Citizens Group. She enjoyed taking care of her flower gardens, and spending time with family and friends, who stopped frequently to enjoy her company and her sun porch. Gert especially loved children and felt like a “Grandma” to them. Her chocolate chip cookies were always a treat.
Predeceased by her husband A. Christopher Zander, her brothers George Hathaway and Robert Hathaway, and her sisters Anna Alquist, Margaret Jordan, Gladys Ruby and Harriet Hathaway. She is survived by her daughter Lynne Otrok and her husband Michael J. Otrok of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; her grandsons Michael C. Otrok, also of Ponte Vedra, FL and Christopher Otrok and his wife Mary Stegmaier of Columbia, Missouri; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10am at the Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover.
