Geraldine V. Casey, 95, of Livingston, New Jersey, formerly of Plainfield, NJ passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Inglemoor Care Center in Livingston, NJ.

Gerry was born on February 18, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Vincent and Maria (nee Amato) Cosumano.

Gerry was a graduate of Hunter College with a B.A. in Social Work. She married her husband John in 1947 and had two children. After her children were in school, she continued her education at Rutgers University, receiving her Masters degree in Clinical Social Work and began working as a social worker at Rahway Hospital. She retired from Rahway Hospital in 1988 as Director of Patient Management.

While working at the hospital, Gerry was on the Board of the Visiting Homemakers Association of Rahway and assisted the Advisory Council of the New Jersey Department of Human Services Division of Aging. In 1989, Gerry received the Rahway Hospital Humanitarian Award. After retirement from the hospital, she founded and was president of the Rahway Hospital Retirees Association. In honor of her service to the hospital, a section of a new building at Rahway Hospital was named after Gerry.

Gerry devoted her life to helping people and her community. She was a member of the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield and, prior to attending graduate school, taught nursery school at the Plainfield YWCA. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all of them.

She is survived by her children, Jeanne Seigle and her husband Ron of Morristown, NJ, and Roger Casey and his wife, Doty of Odessa, FL. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jessica Burruano and her husband Michael, Mahwah, NJ; Elizabeth Seigle, New York, NY, Reid and Trevor Casey, Odessa, FL; one great-grandson, Mason Burruano, Mahwah, NJ and her nephew Eric Sigward, New York, NY.

Gerry was predeceased by her loving husband John and her siblings Angela Sigward and Joseph Cosumano.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Unitarian Church of Summit, 4 Waldron Ave., Summit, NJ 07901.
