George R. Clark

George R. Clark, 87, of Union, New Jersey passed away on November 28, 2013 at Heath Village, Hackettstown, NJ.

George was born on December 1, 1925 in Newark, NJ. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John T. and Alice E. (nee Twibill) Clark.

George was predeceased by his loving wife, Evelyn in 2010. He is survived by his children: Deborah Scheiderman and husband, Steve , Kevin Clark and wife, Mary and Brian Clark. He was the grandfather to: Carrie Sivo and husband, Clemente, Kelli Coen and husband Bill Weyersberg, Tricia Gerns and husband Josh, Michelle Coen, Tammy Grebla, Shane Clark and wife Traci, Christopher Clark, Corey Clark, Kyle Clark, Connor Clark, Tim Scheiderman and great grandchildren: Julian Gerns, Graziella Sivo, Tyler Grebla, Phoebe Gerns, and Nicola Sivo. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Edith and husband Tom Leddy and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers; William and his wife, Jean and John and his wife, Florence.

George was a life-long resident of Union for over 60 years. He served in The United States Navy from 1942-1947. He joined the Union Fire Department in 1951, was promoted to Captain in 1956, then to Deputy Chief in 1967. He served as Acting Chief of the Department from1980, to his retirement in 1985. He was also a life time parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, Union, NJ.

He was a volunteer with PAL, Girl’s Club and Boy’s and Girl’s Club for over 25 years. He was the past president and Chairman of the Board of Directors. George was a former Committee Chairman, Cubmaster, and Webelo leader of Cub Scout Pack 169 of St. Michael’s Church. He was a Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 69 also of St. Michael’s Church. He was a Chairman for the Unami District, Watchung Area Council which includes Elizabeth, Hillside, Springfield and Union. He received the Bronze Pelican Medal from Archbishop Theodor McCarrick in recognition of outstanding service in the spiritual developmental of youth in the program of the Boy Scouts of America. As an adult, he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4504. He was honored as Knight of the month in 1990. He was a member of Flintlocks, Swim Club, Bon Home Richard, Frazier, and The Emerald Society.

He was a former President of New Jersey State Paid Fire Officers Association, former member of Callmens Emergency Ambulance Squad, President of Township of Union Exempt Fire Association, Vice-President of New Jersey State International Association of Firefighters, a member of the New Jersey State Retired Police and Firefighters Association, member of the Township of Union Community Development Advisory Board, life member of the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association, Life Member I.D. Harris Chapter 10 Disable American Veterans, and a Life Member Michael A. Kelly Post 2433 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Family and Friends may visit at Bradley, Haeberle, & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave. Union, on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:15 am on Wednesday, December 4, 2010 at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union, NJ. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ.
