George Ihor Zajac

George Ihor Zajac, 87, of East Hanover passed away at St. Barnabas Hospital on May 1st. A Funeral Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 60 Jefferson Rd in Whippany on Tuesday, May 7th at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Bradley-Braviak Funeral, 49 Whippany Rd, Whippany on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm with Parastas at 7pm. Born and raised in Lviv, Ukraine, Ihor came to the United States in 1951 first settling in Newark. He had also lived in Irvington before moving to East Hanover in 1978. He attended the University of Lviv for pre-med, the Ukrainian Free University, Germany for courses in philosophy, and law administration, Technische Hoshshule, Germany for general engineering and Newark College of Engineering for courses in electrical design and engineering. Ihor had worked for Allied Chemical prior to joining Foster Wheeler in Livingston in 1967. He was an electrical engineer until his retirement in the 1990’s. Ihor had served as chief editor of “Phoenix” Ukrainian students’ magazine. He was a member of Instrument Society of America, the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America and authored many organizational and educational articles in the Ukrainian language.


Ihor was the beloved husband of 41 years to Stephanie. He was the loving father of Yaro Zajac and his wife Edie and Steven Zajac and his wife Pam. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Arianna, Lexi, Adam, and Cooper. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ihor’s memory may be made to the St. John’s Building Fund.
