Frances Kukucka

Frances B. Kukucka, 80, of Morris Plains passed away at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor on December 17th. Frances was an outgoing people person who was quick to engage in conversation, showing a wonderful sense of humor and a unique ability to show strong optimism in the face of crisis. Her favorite advocacy causes were higher education, animal welfare, and international cultural exchange. She most enjoyed sharing time at the Jersey shore with her children and grandchildren, and was an accomplished ballroom dancer with John, her much-missed husband of 37 years (deceased 1990).”

Born and raised in Bayonne, Frances had also lived in Fanwood before moving to Morris Plains in 1962. As a young mother she was always involved as a school volunteer and Scout leader. Volunteer work over the years continued at Morristown Memorial Hospital, with the local Red Cross, and in recent years as an officer of the local Brandeis University Woman’s Club to raise money for the library and education. She enjoyed the friendship and conversation of the BB’s Breakfast Club, sharing her infectious sense of optimism and humor.

Following graduation from Bayonne High School, she completed John Marshall secretarial school. Frances continued her education at Morris County Community College and Fairleigh Dickinson University earning her Bachelor’s Degree at age 68. Part of her education included a summer of study in Siena, Italy with Villanova University. Frances continued her interest in further education working toward a Master’s Degree at FDU. Also at FDU, she funded a scholarship for a disadvantaged student.

Frances was the beloved wife of John Kukucka, Sr. She was the loving mother of son Dr. John Kukucka, Jr. and his wife Deidre and grandchildren Jill, Allie and Tim of Wall, NJ; Daughter Carol Kukucka and her husband Todd Doney and grandsons Jon Matkowski and Jesse Kukucka-Doney of Gillette, NJ; Son Robert Kukucka and his wife Donna and grandchildren Nicholas, Madison, and Thomas of Denver, CO; Son Richard Kukucka and his wife Christine and grandchildren Katia, Matthew, and Alexandra of Ann Arbor, MI; Her beloved cat and companion, Alpha; Sisters Stephanie Geraldine (Gerry) Wortman and Aurelia (Lil) Levendusky of Bayonne, NJ Also, many loved nieces and nephews.
