Frances T. Filandro

Frances T. Filandro, 101, of Union, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.

Frances was born on January 24, 1918 in Newark, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francesco and Rose (nee DiRuggearo) Fuino.

Frances was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She began her career as a legal secretary and later became a beloved wife, homemaker and mother to five children. She returned to school later in life while raising her children and furthered her education at Kean University where she received her undergraduate and two graduate degrees in education. Frances taught at St. Theresa’s School, Kenilworth, NJ and as an Adjunct Professor at Kean University, where she was beloved by her students.

In addition to teaching, Frances served on multiple committees within Kean University and on the Library Board, Union, NJ. Frances was elected to the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She attributed her longevity to her deep spirituality and faith as well as to a focus on good nutrition and exercise. She was an avid swimmer, walker and cyclist well into her 80s. Frances loved to read and was a prolific writer. She regaled her family and close friends with her weekly emails and authored her autobiography and a book on Spiritual Healing.

Frances was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerard Filandro in 2003. She was the beloved mother of Rosemary Juster (late James), Theresa Dixon (James), Judith Filandro, Dolores Filandro-Gordon (Dave Gordon), Gerald Filandro (Daryl Ann N. Filandro) and cherished grandmother of 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Frances leaves a legacy of loving kindness and caring. She will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Avenue, Union, NJ 07083. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:15 am on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union, NJ. An interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth, NJ.
