~~Ellen Louise Miller, 69, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Kindred Hospital, Rahway.

Ms. Miller was a longtime resident of Springfield, having moved there with her parents when she was 10 months old. She attended St. James the Apostle Grammar School, Springfield, and Holy Trinity High School, Westfield before attending Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, where she earned a B.A. in Psychology in 1968. Having worked after school and during the summers throughout high school at the Springfield Free Public Library, Ellen proceeded to study Library Science at Columbia University and received her M.L.S. degree in 1972.

Ellen’s professional career began at The First Boston Corporation, an investment banking firm in Manhattan. After six years as their assistant librarian, she became Manager of the library at White, Weld & Company, another investment bank in 1974. The following year, she moved to New York City, and lived there for the next 27 years. She was subsequently named Research Director for the New York office of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, a management consulting firm and a consultant at Designs for Information, a library consulting firm. She completed her career in 1999 at J.P. Morgan as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Equities Division. Throughout her career, Ellen was very active in the Special Libraries Association, serving twice as President of the New York Chapter and as frequent speaker and continuing education instructor at their annual conferences. She was elected into the Association’s Hall of Fame in 2004 in recognition of her many years of service.

In 2003, Ellen moved back to Springfield, and became involved again in the work of St. James the Apostle Parish, joining both the adult and Lazarus choirs and serving for five years as Secretary of the Pastoral Council.

Predeceased by her parents, Fred and Helen Miller, Ellen is survived by her beloved cousins and dear friends.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 11am at the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield, followed by a 12 noon Funeral Mass at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 S. Springfield Ave., Springfield. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover. There will be a visitation on Friday from 4-8pm at the funeral home.
