~~Elizabeth Gordon Richards, 92, died March 11, 2016 at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge. After residing in Chatham for 49 years, she moved to Fellowship Village in 1998. Libby graduated from Mt. Holyoke College in 1944 and was married to Richard T. Richards for 61 years prior to his death in 2010.
Libby served on the Chatham Emergency Squad for 10 years and was a life member. A sustaining member of the Junior League of Morristown, she received their Presidents Award in 1991. She served on the Board of Family Service of Morris County for 18 years, chaired the Borough of Chatham Local Assistance Board and served with the Human Services Association of Morris County holding the office of Treasurer. She also held positions of Secretary and Vice-chairman of the Morris County Division on Aging Advisory Council, Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Human Services Advisory Council and served on the Morris County Mental Health Advisory Board. At Fellowship Village she continued her volunteer work serving on the Resident’s Council and, at the time of her death, had been the Treasurer for the library for over 11 years. An avid reader, she also enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and enjoyed many winters at her home in Naples, Fl.
She is survived by her 2 children: Douglas G. Richards and his wife Karen and Carol R. Gilbert and her husband Edgar, and 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Campbell and husband Jon, Katherine Monahan and husband David, Margaret Leahey and husband Patrick and Brian G. Richards.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 2 at Fellowship Village, 8000 Fellowship Rd., Basking Ridge, NJ at 4 pm followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chatham Emergency Squad, 45 Spring St, Chatham, NJ 07928 or your local American Red Cross.
