Elga Roche Wheeler

Elga Roche Wheeler, 100 years old, of Chatham Township, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, October 15, 2013, after a brief illness. Born and raised in East Orange, Elga lived in Andover, Massachusetts, and Albany, N.Y. before settling in Chatham in 1947. During the War, Elga drove a Red Cross Truck. She belonged to the Noe Guild of Chatham Township, and volunteered with the League of Women Voters, working polls on Election Days. Elga attended Kent Place School and Wells College in Aurora, NY. Along with the enjoyment of many neighborhood friends, she was an active participant in tennis, paddle tennis and golf later in life.

Predeceased by her husband, Woolsey M. Wheeler; Elga is survived by her son Edward Wheeler and his wife Elizabeth, of Brooklyn, NY, son Auguste Wheeler of Mill Valley, CA; grandson Carleton Wheeler and his wife Virginia of Larchmont, NY; great grandchildren Lucas, Samuel and Noelle Wheeler, of Larchmont, NY. Elga also leaves her dear caretaker, Miss Alison.

A Burial Service will be held at Greenwood Cemetary, Brooklyn on Saturday October 26 at 10:30 AM, followed by a Memorial Service/Reception at 1PM at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, 240 Southern Boulevard, Chatham, NJ 07928.
