Eleanor M. Search

Eleanor Search, age 88, passed away on May 25 at Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Chatham, NJ.

Born in Newark, Eleanor lived almost her entire life in West Orange. She received a Bachelor’s degree in 1949 from the old Newark State Teachers College and a Master’s degree in 1957 from Kean University. She taught for 37 years at Hazel Avenue School, where she always said her “15 minutes of fame” was having had Mark Kelly, the astronaut, in her first grade class. After retirement Eleanor continued working with children as a volunteer with the Suburban Cultural Educational Enrichment Program (SCEEP) in Essex County. As a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Montclair since 1946, she served there in various areas over many years.

She leaves a sister, Mrs. Constance Smithers of Verona, two nieces, Mrs. Collen Gale of Long Island and Mrs. Cynthia Augustine of Alabama, and a grandnephew, Joshua Augustine of Alabama. Her brother, Lester Search Jr., and nephew, Randy Search, predeceased her.

At Eleanor’s request there will be a graveside service to the glory of God 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair.
