Douglas J. MacGregor
12/14/1936 - 04/13/2018

Douglas J. MacGregor, 81, of Summit, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018 at his home.

Douglas was born on December 14, 1936 in Orange, NJ. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. and Agnes V. (nee Whelan) MacGregor.

He was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Summit where he worked as a Pastoral Sacristan and faithfully carried out the rituals required in opening and preparing the Church for Mass for 20 years. He also was an active member of the Church Choir for over 35 years and travelled with the Choir all over the United States, performing at beautiful churches in Boston and Baltimore among many others, and internationally where he performed at many notable cathedrals including the Vatican in Rome, the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, Italy and St. Colman’s Cathedral in Cobh, Ireland. In Doug’s earlier years, he loved being a lifeguard in Spring Lake, NJ and has since carried a love of the ocean. He started out his career as a DJ at a radio station in Asbury Park NJ.

Doug enjoyed living in Summit and frequenting his favorite watering holes, restaurants, and luncheonettes where he spent quality time with dear friends. He loved nothing more than to engage in conversations with old and new acquaintances.

In his spare time, Doug dabbled in writing and looked forward to reading the NY Post cover to cover each day. His life long love of the arts was evident in his attendance at his nieces and nephews ballet, piano and theatrical performances.

Doug was predeceased by his brother, Robert J. MacGregor and niece, Melissa “Missy” MacGregor Centanni. Douglas is survived by his sister, Barbara Sterling.

He was the loving uncle of Pam MacGregor Sullivan and husband Pat, Rob MacGregor and wife Lori, Kristy MacGregor Pucillo and husband Larry, Stuart MacGregor, Didi MacGregor Brignola and husband Chris, Ian MacGregor and wife Beth, Mark MacGregor, Patricia Sterling Milkey and husband Steve, Beth Sterling Valandra and husband Kent, Catharine Sterling, Susan Richards, Nancy Sterling and Linda Sterling. Douglas was also the beloved great uncle to 22 great nieces and nephews.

Doug brought light to all of us with his happy go lucky, upbeat personality, love of life and sense of fun. He will be sorely missed.
