Douglas G. Sterkel, 54, of Madison, NJ, passed away at home on February 13, 2021. Memorial vising hours at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. in Chatham will be on Saturday, February 20th from 4 to 7pm. Doug was born in Superior, Nebraska, the son of Darwin and Sandra (Klawitter) Sterkel. He grew up on a farm near Nelson Nebraska and graduated from Nelson High School where he was active in FFA, football and track. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and the Livestock Judging Team. He earned his MBA from Loyola University in Chicago.
He lived in Maryland and Chicago before moving to Madison in 2000. Doug worked at Abbott Laboratories and AgriCapital prior to starting his own investment banking firm, Sterkel & Co., three years ago. He was a huge NEBRASKA CORNHUSKER’S FOOTBALL fan!!!! He also enjoyed paddle tennis, skiing, travel, going back to visit the farm, gardening, cooking and most importantly he loved watching Austin play football and lacrosse and Jess and Jordyn compete in Gymnastics competitions.
Doug was a great brother in-law and uncle to Nolene, Dwayne and Jack of Sydney, Australia. He enjoyed all the time he spent with them throughout the years.
Doug was Julie’s best friend since the day they met 30 years ago in New Zealand, while both traveling the world. Fate bought two incredible people together despite the 9,195 miles from Nebraska to Australia.
Doug was the beloved husband of 27 years to Julie and the most loving father of Austin, Jess, Jordyn and Lexy the dog.
