Dorothy Clare Mahan

Dorothy Clare McEntee Mahan, 94, of Madison and Whippany, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Regency Nursing Home, Dover, NJ.

Dorothy was born on January 3, 1919 in Jersey City, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Alice (nee Donovan).

She married William J. Mahan on September 29, 1945, and they lived together in New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. Dorothy relocated to NJ in 1965 following her husband’s death, and was a founding employee of Bloomingdales in Short Hills, where she worked for over 30 years. She was an active member of St. Vincent Martyr Catholic Church in Madison. Dorothy was devoted to her five children, twelve grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She attended countless scout meetings, school plays, ball games, cheerleading competitions, and CYO events. She was present for all twelve high school graduations of her grandchildren, in NJ, TN, TX, MD, and CT. She was also an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs, a volunteer reading teacher, and an active member of Thursday Morning Club and Madison Seniors of Madison, NJ. In her later years, she was cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, Gerarda and Brian Rollin, her granddaughter Jennifer Rollin, and her niece Liz McEntee in Whippany.

She is survived by her children, Gerarda and Brian Rollin of Whippany; Tom and Beverly Mahan of Franklin, TN; Kathy and Dave Michaud of Austin, TX; and Jim and Kathy of Thompson’s Station, TN; daughter-in-law Ginny Mahan Passaro (Joe) of Annapolis, MD; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as many dear family members and friends. In additions to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, five siblings, her son Bill Mahan, and her friend and sister-in-laws Mary McEntee and Mary Rynne McEntee.

A visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany, NJ 07981. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013 at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ 07940.
