Donald R. Fancher

Donald R. Fancher, 94, of Union, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Born and raised by his grandparents in Succasunna, Donald lived in the Roxbury area before moving to Union with his second wife Norma.

Donald proudly graduated from the Picatinney Arsenal Trade School, after serving his apprenticeship as a tool & die maker. He spent most of his life as a tool & die maker, however taking a break when he purchased and operated two Carvel ice cream stores in Denville. More recently, Donald was a maintenance supervisor at Sterling Plastics in Mountainside. A veteran of the US Army, Donald served during WWII. Donald was a member and past Master of the Free and Accepted Masons one time Lodge in Wharton. He also participated with the Acacia Lodge #20 in Dover. He was a devout Christian and member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Springfield, where he served in the Finance Cabinet.

Predeceased by his first wife, Grace June Robinson; Donald is survived by his wife of 44 years, Norma; children William Fancher and Susan Church; grandchildren Jeremy Logan, Sara Peters and Laura Fancher; great grandchildren William Peters and Lucy Schmidt; sister Audrey Whritenour; step children Linda Koenig, Cheryl Hambrock and Susan Laudati; step grandchildren Lee Kozlowski and Nicole Laudati; and step great grandson Landyn Kozlowski.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 4-7pm at the Bradley Smith & Smith FH, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield. There will be a church service on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10am at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Springfield, 37 Church Mall, Springfield. Interment of ashes will follow at the 1st Presbyterian Church Cemetery of Succasunna.
