Donald C. Heimall

Donald C. Heimall, of Union, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. He was 87 years old.

Donald was a U.S. Navy veteran and served his country in World War II as a signalman on the USS Kent Island receiving medals and honors for his service.

He was a life member of the Sampson WW2 Navy Veterans Association.

After completing his service, he moved to Union with his wife Doris in 1953, where together they raised a large and loving family.

Donald earned his B.S. at Rutgers University and worked as a IBM Operator / Systems Analyst at Bayonne Navy Yard (Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Co), IBM, Vita Var, General Electric, ABB Lummus, Somerset Medical Center before his retirement in 1991.

Donald was a member of the Union Township Garden Club, and a member of the NY Turtle and Tortoise Society. For 12 years he served as a member of the Callmens’ Emergency Unit #1 in Union.

Donald leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, E. Doris (Hurst) Heimall, five children: John Heimall and his wife Pat of Somerset, NJ; Fred Heimall and his wife Kristin of Califon, NJ; Paul Heimall and his wife Nieves of Brick, NJ; Warren Heimall and his wife Karen of West Orange, NJ; and Theresa Trivino of Caldwell, NJ; twelve grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Donald on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 2-6 PM at the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, located at 415 Morris Avenue in Springfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 16 at St. James the Apostle Church, located at 45 So. Springfield Avenue in Springfield. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s name may be made to a charity or scholarship fund of your choice.
