Dimitry G. Nicola, a long-time resident of the Vailsburg section of Newark, died at Newark Beth Israel Hospital on September 25, 2012. He was 97.
Born in Macedonia, Mr. Nicola came to the United States when he was 10. He was a graduate of West Side High School in Newark, did his undergraduate work at NYU and received his law degree from Rutgers on the GI Bill. Mr. Nicola served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He received his honorable discharge in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Nicola was an attorney for many years in the Vailsburg section of Newark and had lived in the Vailsburg since 1965.
He is the beloved husband of Angelina. Loving father of Sue Tiemann and her husband Mark of Union, Sandra Grenci and her husband Tom of Neshanic Station, Ken Nicola and his wife Linda of Springfield and the late Richard Nicola (1954). Cherished grandfather of Francine & Victoria Grenci, Richard Tiemann and Tara & Matthew Nicola.
