Charles Driscoll Mason, 93, of Chatham, NJ passed away on November 14th. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd, Chatham, on Wednesday, November 20th at 9:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St, Chatham on Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm. Charles was born and raised in New York City and has lived in Chatham Township since 1974. He graduated from All Hallows High School and earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from Fordham University. A veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII, he served from 1939 to 1945. Charles was in many of the major battles in the Pacific theatre.

Professionally, Dr. Mason (known simply as “Mason”) developed and held over thirty patents at Allied Signal in Morristown, NJ where he worked for over thirty years. He was an active member of the American Chemical Society. He retired in 1990.

Always highly active, Charles enjoyed music, puzzles, golf and spending time with his family on Cape Cod. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, intellect, larger than life sense of humor and quick wit. He inspired all that knew him to imagine, to challenge and to discover.

Charles was the beloved husband of 48 years to the late Mary (nee McQuillan). He was the loving father of Catherine M. Wilson, Peter M. Mason, Barbara M. Mason, Elizabeth M. Mason, Pauline M. Mason, and Mary Ann M. Mason. He is also survived by his 7 cherished grandchildren. He is preceded in passing by his brothers Jack and Gerald Mason. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’ memory may be made to either the Maryknoll Lay Missioners or the Chatham Emergency Squad.
