Catherine “Kit” Ann Craniey, 70, of Chatham, died at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 16, 2015.
Born on May 21, 1945 in Jersey City, NJ, Kit was the only child of Wilfred & Veronica Hubberstey (McCarthy). She worked as a Legal Secretary for the majority of her career.
Kit lived in New Jersey for most of her life, but loved to visit all areas of Massachusetts, especially with her family. She loved to travel and experience new cultures and new surroundings. Kit was a devoted mother and grandmother. As a mother she kept busy travelling with her children for Highland Dancing events and continued to do so with her grandchildren. All who knew her will remember Kit’s bravery, wit, kindness, and compassion.
Kit is survived by her children, Heather Nerwinski (husband Tom), Laura Craniey, Rosaleen Craniey, and James Craniey (wife Sara); grandchildren, Sarah, Noah, Gracie, Jack, and Reagan; loyal dog, Layla; and numerous cousins, family members, and friends too numerous to list. She is preceded in death by her husband Daniel Craniey. A memorial scholarship has been set up in her name in remembrance of her enthusiasm for Highland Dancing. Donations can be made payable to the “Kit Craniey Highland Dance Scholarship” 7 South Harrison St., Frenchtown, NJ 08825.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Kit’s life on September 19, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, 240 Southern Blvd, Chatham, NJ.
