Bernice Bittner

Bernice Bittner, 93, of Lakewood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2019. Born and raised in Newark, Bernice had also lived in Caldwell and Florida before moving to Lakewood. Bernice worked as a Veterinarian Assistant, and in the Medical Records Department of Morristown Memorial Hospital. More recently, she was the Senior Activities Director, Banquet Manager and Social Director of the Helen Wilkes Hotel in West Palm Beach, Florida. Bernice was a member of the Elks Organization in Florida, and volunteered as a teacher of the Blind, and a fundraiser for Deborah Heart and Lung Center. A vibrant, glamorous and talented woman, Bernice enjoyed oil painting, cooking, sewing and flower designing. She had a deep love for animals, particularly dogs.

Bernice is survived by her children, William Ty Bittner of Lakewood and Barbara Killeen and her husband William of Madison; cousins Carol Dolinskas and Fred Fischer; and nieces Cynthia Laden, Nancy Wagle and Diane Hallock.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at 2pm at the Center for Spiritual Living, 331 Mt. Kemble Avenue in Morristown. A private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bernice may be made to the St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, 575 Woodland Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940.
