Bernard Warren Hehl

~~Bernard Warren Hehl, 92, of Union passed away on August 2, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel, 1212 Kelly St in Union on Saturday, August 6th at 10:15am. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park. Born in Brooklyn, the son of F. Butler and Katherine Hehl and stepson of Dorothy, Warren resided in Union for 65 years. He served his country in the US Army during WWII where he received 6 major combat stars including the battle at Omaha Beach on “D” Day and the Battle of the Bulge. Warren was a graduate of Seton Hall University and Fordham Law School and was the founder of Hehl and Hehl, Attorneys at Law in Union. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #4504 of Union, and the first president of the Knights Columbian Club. Warren was a member, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Union Rotary Club, as well as member and past president of the Union County Bar Association and a former trustee of the NJ State Bar Association. He was Legislative Aide to Congressman Matthew J. Rinaldo when he was a member of the New Jersey State Senate and was his Congressional Aide for the 19 years he served as Congressman in Washington, D.C. Warren was an active member and helped organize the Union Township Historical Society and was a member of the Suburban Golf Club. He enjoyed boating, golf, gardening (especially tending to his roses) and participating in the Gourmet Club with wonderful friends.

In June of 1994, Warren and his wife Emma had the privilege of attending the 50th Anniversary of “D” Day ceremonies on Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge ceremonies in Luxembourg City.

Warren was the beloved husband of 63 years to Emma. He was the loving father of Warren J. and his wife Cheryl, Stephen F. and his wife Mary Jane, Mary Katherine Policastro and her husband Joseph and Joseph P. and his wife Mary Lynn. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Christina Miranda and her husband Daniel, Stephen, Jr., Alexandra, Deanna, Joseph, Kathryn, Madeline and Joseph, Jr. and great granddaughter Cecelia Catherine.
