Bernard “Bernie” Conlan, a life-long resident of Chatham, passed away at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville on April 4, 2020. He was 64.
Bernie was born in Chatham to the late Mary and Bernard Conlan in 1955. He graduated from Chatham Township High School in 1974 and soon after started working for the Chatham Borough Department of Public Works. Working there for over 40 years, Bernie became well known for his helpful, friendly manner and was a beloved member of the Chatham community. He was kindly referred to as “Uncle Bernie” by many.
A long-time member of the Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department, Bernie served as Captain and Lieutenant as well as on numerous committees for almost 30 years.
Before his death, Bernie was a resident of the New Jersey Fireman’s home in Boonton, NJ, where he received excellent care and leaves many friends.
He is survived by his brothers, Daniel and Christopher (Sharon) and their children Kevin (Julie), Tabitha and Kristy; nephew Nick and niece Rachel Conlan. He is also survived by many cousins and family throughout the country.
In light of the restrictions surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, the family is delaying memorial services until such time the precautionary measures and guidelines in social gathering are lifted.
