Barbara W. Valk, 82, of Madison passed away at Morristown Memorial hospital on October 23rd. A Memorial Service will be held at Stanley Congregational Church, 94 Fairmount Ave, Chatham on Saturday, November 10th at 11:30am.
Born in Madison Wisconsin, Barbara had also lived in Chatham before moving to Madison, NJ in 1956. She graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Political Science/Social Science. Barbara had worked at the Madison Eagle before leaving to raise her family. She was a long time member and chairperson of the Madison Housing Authority as well as the Madison Affordable Housing Corp. Barbara was the Founder of the Madison Eagle Christmas Fund, was a member of the Morris County Golf Club and the Phi Mu Sorority since 1947. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and travel.
Barbara was the beloved wife of 42 years to the late Donald Valk. She was the loving mother of Christopher and his wife Elaine. She is also survived by her cherished granddaughters, Jennifer and Abigail and dear sister, Cynthia Weaver. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to NJSPCA, 1119 Livingston, Ave, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
