Barbara Marie (nee Kaufmann) Melfi, 72, of Whippany, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

Bobbi was born on March 10, 1944 in Stamford, CT. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George P. and Rosa M. (nee Zapf) Kaufmann.

Bobbi was a graduate of Stamford High School and attended Danbury State College. After college, she worked at Pitney Bowes in Stamford for several years before leaving to raise her family. In New Jersey, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. William McCrae in Convent Station.

She is survived by her loving husband, George Melfi, Jr. of 51 years. She was the beloved mother of Christine Piechnik and her husband, Paul of Madison, NJ, Karren Melfi of Whippany, NJ, Stephen Melfi of Rogue River, OR, and Loren Lafferty of Morris Plains, NJ. She was the cherished grandmother of Jimmy, Marie, Hannah and Kyle Piechnik, Joey Fisher, and Jack and Ryan Lafferty. In addition, she is survived by her brothers; George Kaufmann, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, and Ronald Kaufmann, and his wife, Donna, as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Bobbi’s greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She shared with them her love of pets, baking, and sewing, and instilled in them the importance of family and friends. The doors of her homes in Whippany and at the lake were always open, and everyone who knew her felt welcome.

A visitation will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany, NJ 07981. Inurnment will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Fairfield Memorial Park, Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation, 6707 Democracy Blvd., Suite 325, Bethesda, MD 20817.
