Annaclare “Annie” Vollherbst

Annaclare "Annie" Vollherbst
02/17/1925 - 03/08/2017

Annaclare Mueller Vollherbst of Mountainside, NJ, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones. She was 92. Born in Newark, NJ on February 17, 1925, Annaclare was the daughter of Mary Yourkoski Mueller and Martin P. Mueller.

Annaclare was a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing where she was a Nurse Cadet during WWII. She worked at Presbyterian Hospital before working for Dr. Arthur D’Allesandro in Newark.

Annaclare met the love of her life, Raymond, at Richard’s Dance School in Newark. They married on New Year’s Eve 1948 and moved to Union, NJ where they lived for 9 years with their three young daughters.

Together they built their dream home in Mountainside where they moved in 1958. Later that year, Raymond tragically died in an auto accident while on his way home from work. Left with the challenge of raising their children alone, Annaclare courageously provided a home filled with faith, love and laughter. She also opened their home to anyone in need, friends, family and many homeless animals.

Annaclare worked at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ as a Registered Nurse in the Coronary Care Unit for many years. She retired in 1987 to help care for her grandchildren and her aging relatives.

Annaclare loved playing Michigan Rummy on Friday nights with her girlfriends, Poker and Canasta “across the street with the Kellers”. She loved reading, crossword puzzles and was awed by the mystery of the billion distant lights that filled the heavens of the night skies. Her love for the ocean found her swimming at the Jersey Shore, Ogunquit, Maine and Bermuda. She loved the mountains of Vermont and visiting her relatives in Ireland, as well.

Her greatest joy in life came from her family. She was the cherished mother of Margaret Wilson and husband James of Chatham, NJ, Abigail Vollherbst of Mountainside NJ and Patricia Stephan and husband Karl of Chatham, NJ. In addition, she was the beloved MomMom of James Wilson and wife Larissa of Chatham, NJ, Kathryn Moebius and husband William of Convent Station, NJ, Megan Vohden and husband Patrick of Hoboken, NJ, Emily Stephan of Syracuse, NY, Christian Stephan of Houston, Texas, and Thomas Stephan of NYC and great-grandchildren; Abigail & Ryan Wilson and Caroline & Grace Moebius. She is also survived by her cousin, Frederick Vollherbst of Mesa, AZ and her devoted friend and caregiver Florent Nugent.
