Ann Elizabeth Tellson Hurley died peacefully on November 12, 2015 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ. Born in Orange, NJ, on May 23, 1930, of the late Joseph and Esther Tellson, she attended Marylawn of the Oranges High School and Georgetown Visitation in Washington, DC. After several years working as a buyer at Bambergers in Newark, NJ, she married James Edward Hurley, Jr. of Westfield, NJ in 1955. They settled in South Orange, NJ, where they raised their three children, and then moved to Chatham Township where they were active members of the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church.
Those who knew Ann knew that she deeply loved art, music, traveling, and gardening, passions that she passed on to all of her children. Ann was chair of the Founders’ Fund for the Garden Club of America as well as the president and horticulture chair of the Garden Club of the Oranges. She created beauty in her home and garden through imaginative landscape and interior design, flower arranging, and artistic flare. She was also an avid tennis and duplicate bridge player. Her friends and family will miss her humor and infectious laugh.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Hurley, her brother, J. Richard Tellson, and her three children, Eileen, Jim, and Elizabeth Hurley. The wake will be held at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home at 345 Main Street, Chatham Township, NJ, on Sunday, November 15, 2015 from 4-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 234 Southern Boulevard, Chatham Township, NJ, 07928. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
