Anita Hattersley Franzese passed away on September 14, 2013. She was born in Summit on April 22, 1921 to the late Nancy and Walter Shelton. She lived in Springfield all of her life and most recently at Sunrise at Brighton Gardens in Mountainside NJ.

Anita was employed at Bell Telephone for many years and for Chubb Insurance Company retiring in 1984.

She was predeceased by her husbands Roy Hattersley and Frank Franzese.

Anita was a past leader of the Girl Scouts of St. James Springfield and volunteered for Sage with the meals on wheels program for many years. She was a past member of the Young at Heart Singers, The St James Rosary Society and was active in the Senior Citizens belonging to group 3. She organized senior trips to Atlantic City for many years.

Anita was made woman of the year by the VFW post 7683 for all her volunteer work.

Anita is survived by her two children, Douglas Hattersley of Marietta Georgia and Lysbeth Donner and husband Frank of Lebanon, CT, her sister Florence who predeceased, Jacqueline Sinclair and her husband Peter of East Ryegate, Vermont, and Arlene and Edward Franzese who predeceased her. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be will be held on Monday, September 23, at 10:30 AM at St James Church, 45 South Springfield Ave in Springfield. Burial will follow at St. Gertrudes Cemetery in Colonia. Calling hours will be held at Bradley, Smith and Smith, 415 Morris Avenue on Sunday September 22 from 4:00pm-8:00 pm.
