Alfred E. Rancke

Alfred Edward Rancke passed away at home with his family by his side on February 11th.


Alfred was born in New York City on September 14th, 1921 and lived in New York City during his early years. He served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater and in China.


Alfred graduated from Yale in 1947 and later earned an MBA from The Stern School of business at NYU. He married his beloved wife, Barbara, in 1948 and moved to Chicago for 14 years. Upon being transferred east, the Ranckes settled in Summit for the next 52 years. He spent many years with Englehart Industries and later as President of Stayne Medical. Before retirement he spent many years as a real estate broker in the Summit area.


Alfred served his community extensively through numerous civic organizations including the Summit YMCA, the SHIP program, and past local chair of the United Way Fund. His dedication to Central Presbyterian Church was an expression of his deep faith. Al served as an elder, deacon, member of the Stephens Ministry and on the Board of Trustees.


Alfred was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara in 2010 after 62 years of marriage and his son Todd in 2001. He is survived by his three daughters and their husbands; Barbara and Gene Speni, Pam and Steve Schroeder and Cindy and Bob Bienemann. Al was a loving Granddad to his 14 grandchildren and his 6 great-grandchildren. His lived his life as a true gentleman, one of integrity and of deep faith. Al was dearly loved by his family and his kindness and love for them knew no bounds.
