Abilio José Araujo
03/02/1939 - 10/25/2013

Abilio José Araujo, of Union, NJ, passed away on October 25, 2013. He was 74 years old.

Abilio was born in Sopo, Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal to Antonio Luis Araujo and Zulmira (Sa) Araujo. It was in Portugal that he met his wife, Maria, and the couple were blessed to share a marriage lasting fifty years.

Abilio and Maria moved to the United States in 1969 and settled in Union where they raised their family together. Abilio is widely regarded as a true pillar of the Portuguese community in the Union area and earned the respect of his neighbors and colleagues over many years.

Abilio was always extremely hardworking, having first started work when he was just twelve years old. He held jobs in various industries, most recently as a maintenance technician at Stonco Lighting Company in Union, NJ. Family and friends knew him for being a true handyman. He always seemed to have the part or piece that was needed and was always willing to drop what he was doing to help fix a problem. He never said no.

After his retirement in 2001, Abilio enjoyed vacationing in Portugal to visit members of his extended family. He was also a lifelong supporter of the Portuguese football club FC Porto.

Abilio leaves behind his beloved wife of fifty years, Maria (Cunha) Araujo; three loving children: Maria Helena Araujo of Union, NJ; Jorge Araujo and his wife Michelle of Bridgewater, NJ; and Carlos Araujo and his wife Carla of Union, NJ; five beloved grandchildren: Amanda, Ryan, Steven, Ashley, and Andrew; and many more loving nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and close friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Abilio on Monday, October 28, 2013 and Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, located at 1100 Pine Avenue in Union. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 10:15AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1212 Kelly Street in Union. Mausoleum Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
